Interested in volunteering to work on an organic or permaculture type farm? It's a great way to experience what it's like and determine if the lifestyle is for you. The WWOOF website will get you connected with the organic farm of your choice. In return for helping out for 6 or so hours a day, you get to eat excellent organically grown food, and if the farm is far away from your own lodgings, you have a place to stay too.
I would like to have my own little acreage one day. It must be able to grow the following trees without a lot of fuss or bother: rowan, oak, willow, maple, chestnut, cherry, plum, apple, and pear. It must be able to grow the following food plants: grapes, pumpkins, rhubarb, carrots, cucumbers, watermelons. It needs to support the following flowers: forget-me-nots, morning glory, dandelions, buttercups, crocuses, tulips, daisies, daffodils, red clover, white clover, common plantain, scotch broom, and chamomile. Also the following berries: salmonberries, huckleberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
I enjoy classical music of both high and low types, from Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Debussy, Ravel, Mahler, Prokofiev, Sibelius, Nielsen, Stravinsky and Philip Glass, to Offenbach, Bizet and the Waltz Kings (Strauss). I enjoy old time country music by Roy Acuff, Hank Williams, and Jimmie Rodgers; plus more modern country by Alan Jackson, Waylon Jennings, and Garth Brooks. I even like a lot of old hippie music. Watching little kids jump around and dance to it is really funny. The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, The Who, MC5, and Meatloaf. Mungo Jerry, Harry Nielsen, Harry Belafonte, Peter Paul and Mary, Gordon Lightfoot, Kenny Rogers. The Chiffons, Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Phil Spectors girl groups, and doo-wop in general.
